Tips To Planning Your Hair And Makeup For The Best Engagement Photos
Planning hair and makeup for engagement photos can be stressful. Still, I hope it doesn't have to be after reading these tips and tricks for beautiful engagement photos!
Hire a Professional
If you can make it work out with the scheduling of your engagement session, then I really recommend having a professional do your hair and makeup for your session. It can be a huge relief when you don't have to worry about it. Plus, they know how to make you perfect for photos! However quick tip on tip is to be your research and pick an artist that matches your taste and style.
Should We Get Hair Cuts?
For ladies, you should get your hair cut or trimmed at least a month before your session or, for guys, a week before your session. A haircut can make your hair look shiny and give it that healthy and natural look for your session.
Plan your Hairstyle
Pick your hairstyle a couple of weeks before your session! If you are going to be doing your own hair, though, do not try a new hairstyle the day of the session; that will lead to you being stressed out and running late. You want to pick a classic hairstyle that frames your face and matches how formal or informal the session will be. If doing it yourself, practice the style a few times on clean and dirty hair to see how you best want to do it. If you need a little extra hold for the style, add some hairspray, but do not do too much, we don't want that crunchy look!
Planning for Touchups
Bring lipstick, foundation, powder, hairspray, etc., on the day of your session. Also, get a few makeup remover wipes, just in case you want to be able to remove the lipstick you left on your guy's cheek or the pesky mascara lines above your eyelids. Also, during touchups, make sure to be very precise on your eye makeup. That's where the focus of the pictures will be.
Glasses and That Stupid Glare
If you wear glasses a lot, this might be the time to put in those contacts instead, but if you want photos in your glasses, here are a couple of ideas to help with glare. To lower the chance of the glare on your glasses in your images, you can visit your optometrist to see if they will lend you a pair of glasses without lenses or if you can remove the lenses from your glasses just for the session. You could also just buy a cheap, fake pair on Amazon. If none of those choices work, I will happily work with you at the session to place you where the glare is better or not there!
Don't Forget To Shave!
Ladies, remember to shave your legs and underarms if that will be showing at all.
Guys, be sure to shave or trim your beard the day of your session.
Clean or Polish Nails
Your hands will be in many of your images, so it is important to ensure that your nails are clean, trimmed, and/or freshly painted.
