So what is the benefit of having a wedding day first look?

A first look is when the bride and groom see each other prior to their wedding ceremony. It usually starts with the photographer choosing a place that is away from other people and photographs well. She/He then will place the groom facing away from where the bride will be coming out and then get the bride who will walk up behind the groom and either tap him on the should or tell him to turn around.

This is always one of the sweetest moments of a wedding day, the groom seeing his bride for the first time with no one around but the photographer (side-note this is why you need to make sure you are comfortable with your photographer) and you are free to say hello, hug, kiss, exchange gifts or just stand there and take each other in.

First looks are becoming more popular as couples are looking for ways to add more time for just themselves on their day and to be able to share a moment together before things get started. I love it when my couples choose to have a first look because it can help you both relax and enjoy each other.

Another huge benefit to a first look is that it is a great way to get all of your photos finished before the ceremony. Since you are not trying to keep away from each other, you can get everything from the bridal parties, bride and groom portraits, and even have all the family come early to get those photos done too. I promise you it will not take away from the specialness of your ceremony in any way. And then after the ceremony, you can go straight in and enjoy your time with your guests instead of having to spend anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour on photos before your reception.
